What is the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps?
The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC) is an exciting youth program for ages 10-18 that builds leadership, discipline, and teamwork through hands-on naval training. As a cadet, you’ll explore seamanship, aviation, STEM, SCUBA, medical, and even special forces training, with opportunities to train on Navy and Coast Guard bases, ships, and submarines. You’ll wear uniforms, earn ranks, and join adventures like sailing, robotics, or international exchanges with countries like Australia and the UK. No military commitment is required, but you’ll gain skills that prepare you for college, careers, or military service, with some cadets advancing to prestigious service academies. With over 400 units nationwide, you’ll connect with peers, develop confidence, and live the values of honor, respect, and commitment.
The Goals of Our Cadet Programs
At the request of the Department of the Navy, the Navy League of the United States established the USNSCC in 1958 to “create a favorable image of the Navy on the part of American youth”.
Today’s U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps continues to further the image of our maritime services by adhering to a standardized training program designed to:
- Develop an interest and ability in seamanship and seagoing skills
- Instill virtues of good citizenship and strong moral principles in each cadet
- Demonstrate the value of an alcohol-free, drug-free, and gang-free lifestyle
- Expose cadets to the prestige of public service and a variety of career paths through hands-on training with our nation’s armed services
