LT Michael C. McFalls

Commanding Officer

LT Michael C. McFalls

I am a former Firefighter/Lieutenant and Hazardous Materials Technician who has served the youth of Utah in various capacities. Over the years, I have had a lot of medical training, including EMT, ER Tech and Surgical Technologist to name a few. I currently work as a Justice Court Clerk for the City of South Salt Lake. I spent 15 years working with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. I started with the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps 11 FEB 2015 serving with the Training Ship CAPT Mervyn S. Bennion as an Instructor, Executive Officer, and Commanding Officer in Charge. In April 2021, I assumed command of both the Battleship Utah (BB-31) Division and the Training Ship CAPT Mervyn S. Bennion. I believe that it is our duty as officers to mold our next generation of citizens, whether they go into the military or other walks of life. They will be our future and we should give them all of the skills they need to succeed.

I started with Sea Cadets at age 10 and continued until I was 18. It saved my life in so many ways and it made me the person I am today. I wanted to give back and teach the next generation of youth &  hopefully, they will love the program as much as I do. I am also an Eagle Scout. I am currently in school for welding & have plans to go into pipeline welding & fabrication.

My grandfather served in the Navy during WWII. I always enjoyed visiting his home in the summers and watching him carefully put his garden hose away the same way a hose on the deck of destroyer is stowed away. I have two sons in the program and have enjoyed watching them learn and grow into leaders. I have a total of 4 sons and hope to see the others join when they become of age. Besides Sea Cadets I enjoy skiing, mountain biking, and hiking the Wasatch. I also work in the Aerospace industry as an engineer.
